Wool, and Hover Mode
Pursuant to our recent discussions about wool, I thought I’d give a link over to the Bunny Hill Blog. Anne just put up a post showing the most luscious wool. Go feast your eyes!
Another fascinating thing I saw was a video at The Quilt Show by the Bernina educators. Apparently, some new Berninas have what’s called “hover mode.” Oooh, when you’re doing machine appliqué and you need to stop and pivot, if you set the machine on this mode, it’ll automatically raise the presser foot for you! What a concept! I may be the only quilter in the world who has a Bernina with a knee lever, who doesn’t use it. I could really get the wants for the hover mode.
Could’ve used it on this project, that’s for sure!
Until next time,
Kay

The Quilt, Craft & Sewing Festival at the Arizona State Fairgrounds is next week. If you’re in that area, I hope to see you there!

I don’t use the knee lift with my Bernina, so you are not alone. I am short and it just is not a natural position for me to use the knee lift. I suppose I could make myself get used to it but I have never been motivated to do that.
Count me in – I don’t use mine, either. I have tried to get used to it several times, but it really gets in my way! I have a Viking that uses a tap of the foot pedal to raise the presser foot. For some reason that works much better for my brain!
I have a knee lift on mine too, have never used it. I would like to try the speed control for when I am quilting and see if I can do better with that. Not sure what mine does, but if I use needle down and stop, the foot comes up a little bit so I can turn, is that the same idea?

I love the knee lift but has anyone out there figured out how to make the darn thing stay in? Every time I start sewing, the knee lift comes out.
I saw this video too. The hover mode sounds exactly the same as the auto foot lift I have on my pfaff 4.0 It is the ‘best thing since sliced bread’ as we say here in New Zealand. The auto foot lift is the best feature, especilly when stitching around shapes. I love it. It is engaged when I put the machine into needle down mode or if I tap the foot control. I have a knee lift as well but never use it.
