December 14, 2011

The last couple of years, I did an extra holiday-season drawing to give away a book. It’s also the time of my birthday, which is December 17, and it made me feel like my birthday lasted a whole week. :) Let’s do it again!

Unless you’ve been living in a cave, if you’re a quilter you know Sunbonnet Sue. That simple little girl in a simple little frock and great big bonnet that conveniently hides her face. The first appliquér to come up with that concept was a genius!

Christine Porter and Darra Williamson collaborated “across the pond” to create a dozen small quilts to see what Sue gets up to through the seasons.

The book starts with a section of “Sue Basics” that includes materials, frames, borders, backings, bindings, assembling the wall quilts, and how to add the appliqués. The method that the authors used was raw-edge fusible finished with a machine blanket stitch. They’ll take you through it step-by-step.

I’ll take a moment to say here that the illustrator for this book is the same one who is working on my new book, and the illustrations are fantastic. Kudos Robin!!

Yes, I would love to win this book. When my girls were young (about 35 years ago), I made them a Sunbonnet Sue bedspread, dust ruffle, and curtains. There were even a couple of shadow-box like pictures with Sue. My oldest daughter still loves Sue and these would be wonderful for her.

Happy Birthday!! My daughter’s birthday is December 27, so I know what it is like having a Christmas birthday in the family. We always tried to make it a separate and very special day.

I have never done a Sunbonnet Sue and have always wanted to do it, but never got around to it. I would just love to have the book, so I can get started on a Sun Bonnet Sue quilt.

Thank you for the opportunity to win the book.

    Happy, Happy Birthday, Kay!!
I slept under Sunbonnet Sue from the time I went into a twin bed through high school that my grandmother made for me. She was as much a part of my life as breathing and eating.
Now that I have a 15 month old great granddaughter I would like to pass this wonderful heritage down to her. Thank you so very much for offering this chance to win this delightful interpretation.

I love Sunbonnet Sue. I especially love how modern Sues seem to be living a more adventurous life. Happy Birthday! My birthday is on the 20th. When I was growing up, I was often stuck with, “I’m giving you a larger gift since it’s for your birthday and Christmas.” It never was larger. I hope you fared better. As an adult, I’ve always made sure to treat myself well on my birthday.
